We put all pre-owned minivans in our inventory through a rigorous 125-point inspection process before, during, and after the wheelchair van conversion, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has overseen – and approved – AMS’ crash testing.

Working with the OEM designs, AMS strives to maintain the minivan's original structural integrity as the wheelchair accessibility conversions are performed. By not tampering with the frame of a van, it is more sound. Rocker panels and the B Pillar support are structural necessities for safety. 2. Side Entry and Rear Entry Vans

The side-entry AMS Legend is available in select models of the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Volkswagen Routan. The rear-entry Edge comes in these same models, as well as the Honda Odyssey. And the EdgeII long channel model is available in the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan.

Side or rear entry accessibility determines how closely the wheelchair occupant may sit near the handicap minivan’s driver, but other important considerations are how narrow your driveway is, or whether the wheelchair user would typically enter or exit the vehicle from a sidewalk. Families tend to prefer the side entry.

4. Convenience

AMS Vans, Inc. has short term handicap minivan rentals to suit every situation. From our Atlanta, Georgia showroom, customers can rent for as little as one day. From our Houston, Texas location, we ask a one week minimum. Nationwide, longer term wheelchair accessible van rentals are available.

Mobility vehicles can be picked up at our facility, or can be delivered to the renter or a nearby airport (conditions and fees apply). Either way, a professional mobility consultant will be there to instruct the consumer on all the features of the accessible van.

A deposit is not required, but drivers need to be over 25, with a valid driver’s license, full coverage insurance and a clean driving history.

5. Try Before Purchase

Rentals through AMS Vans, Inc. can lead to purchases. We offer a chance for customers to experience a wheelchair vehicle before making the decision to buy. This allows the customer to make sure the handicap van is right for their lifestyle and needs. Purchases made from AMS Vans, Inc. within 30 days of an accessibility rental qualify the purchaser to a discount. Half the cost of the wheelchair minivan rental will be applied towards the handicap vehicle. This can be up to a $2,500 discount!
